A sad day

Vale Nguyen Van Tuong.

Requiesat in pace.

Whatever the crime, capital punishment is not the answer.

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.  If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friends or of thine own were.  Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Sigh. I just can't get over the fact that they refused to let his mother hug him one last time - I mean, seriously, what harm could that possibly do?
I can't fathom any of it - it all seems so barbaric - death by hanging, and Indonesia is not that much better - the Bali Nine face execution by firing squad. Our world hasn't advanced that much ...
Yeah, I felt so creepy observing my moment of silence at 9 a.m. (since I was in Queensland and an hour behind civilized Australia). A nation deciding on the date and time to kill a man. No allowance for mercy or flexibility or individuality. Just plain wrong.
Queensland and an hour behind civilized Australia)

Ahh, the deep north - a century behind on everything!

Just plain wrong.

See my LJ quote of the month - pretty well sums up how I feel about most things these days, and this from an ex-LIBERAL prime minister - go figure!
