J & the army update

J had his appointment with the recruitment guy today - meeting went well.  He's off to an information session in a couple of weeks, and then there's an all day assessment which includes English & Maths test, general knowledge, physical & psychological exams.  Still not sure how I feel about this, but I guess I'll support his choices, regardless of my own political/ethical views. This has very little to do with the hard working defence service personnel, and everythng to do with ideological decisions made by governments.

Uni is on a break this week, but I hope to do some research for last essay - need to find 2 more historical primary sources of info on my chosen topic.  I'm hoping that the library may be quiet this week.

Aussie Idol - some songs should never be sung by anyone else.  Bohemian Rhapsody is one of those songs.  Layla is another.  The supergroups category is one I hope they don't revisit.

Football - well at least one of my red and white teams won.  Seventy two years in the making, it was a great victory for the Sydney Swans.  Unfortunately the St George-Illawarra Dragons were not so successful.  Oh well, go the West Tigers (I can change allegiance in a heartbeat).

I did wonder why Queen was such a popular choice for so many of them. James shouldn't have done Layla. Didn't suit him at all and he killed the vocal. Lee was actually my favourite out of the lot of them. He just goes off like a frog in a sock - I've seen him in his bands down here and he's really got the stage presence market cornered. ;-)

And, HOOFUCKINGRAY for Laura getting the arse. Seriously, I thought that if she DIDN'T go this week, she'd probably be there till the end. *wipes brow*

Thank you, voting public! (Even if it WAS that close! ;-))

Em.
Supergroups was a stupid category - too hard for just one vocal, regardless of the backing group.

I wasn't going to vote this week, but couldn't resist (curse you Telstra), and voted for Lee - his really was the only kickass performance of the night.

I thought the same about Laura, if she didn't leave after that woeful performance, she would be there till the end. I was sure James' name would be read out, and was pleasantly surprised - there may even have been some 'whooping for joy' in our household.

Will be interesting to see what songs are chosen next week ...
There was definitely whooping in THIS house, let me tell you! And how was the big indulgent bit in the end with her? I was like, okay, man, it's over. Let it go. ;-)

Certainly will be! I'm such a whore for these shows. It's terrible! :-S

Em.
Laura , perhaps, should also think about a career in drama - she certainly knows how to perform ...

I find them compelling in their awfulness - it's like a dirty little secret, just one you can share with thousands. I was even pleased to see The Biggest Loser back on the screen. I have no shame ;-)
BWAHAHAHAHA! ;-)

I do say that it's because I'm a singer that I watch Idol - and that's part of it...but it doesn't account for every other reality TV incarnation! ;-) (Have never watched Survivor, though! ;-))

I actually think The Biggest Loser is the best one, because it's something that has benefits beyond the immediacy and even the end of the series. I was watching it the other night and was just in awe of these people - it was just wonderful to see them putting themselves in what would be incredibly difficult situations and positions...and even though there's one winner, in that case, it's difficult to see oneself as a "loser", because of the wonderful benefits it all brings. I think that's just amazingly brave and fantastic. Definitely want to keep watching it. :-) Kinda wish they'd start it here - I'd nominate my brother, although I don't know if his gastric band would prevent him from participating.

Ah, reality TV. It's an escape from reality we all need! ;-)

P.S. OHMIGOD!!! Your icon is HYSTERICAL!!! :-D :-D :-D
Survivor has never been on my list either, but Ch 7 has kindly roped me in to a number of shows as I patiently wait for whatever was due to come on at 9:30 or 10:30. I found The Biggest Loser to be admirable too the first time I watched it - not sure whether I would be that brave in putting my body out there. I'll keep watching.

The icon is courtesy of the very talented awmp.

Exactly - that was a big part of the reason I was so into it. I was just so impressed with these people, who so desperately want to make changes to their life to lose weight and become more healthy...and be prepared to share that journey with the world. I really admire that so much. I find it really inspiring, actually.

Man, that is FUNNY! I didn't notice it until I looked at your LJ properly when I replied and I went, OHMIGOD!!! That's brilliant! :-D (I love that one, too! :-D)

Over here, we are certain the South Melbourne Swans won, who happen to train in Sydney or something....

I was almost disappointed in Laura going, in a sort of 'hit me baby one more time' way.

Oh you silly Mexicans, you have some strange ideas!!

I was almost disappointed in Laura going, in a sort of 'hit me baby one more time' way.

I'll miss having someone to hate, but I won't miss the pain to my ears. Why did 2 minutes of Laura seem like 10?

Glad you like the movie - must see if I can adopt some child for movie outings.

I could lend you mine, they'd see it again in a flash.

Oooo, Wesleydale!
